PLANNERS have signed off on a $49 million Lake Macquarie Costco outlet, paving the way for the 14,000 square warehouse and fuel station.

The Hunter Regional Planning Panel has approved the proposal, which Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser said was the first regional NSW store for the chain outside Sydney.

“The potential of this area is incredible and its the next significant step in realising the countless benefits for jobs, our local economy, lifestyle and businesses, Cr Fraser said.

The $49 million Costco development will continue to spur significant growth in Lake Macquarie City. We look forward to working with other businesses that want to take advantage of the North West Lake Macquarie catalyst areas potential as the transformation of Glendale, Cardiff, Boolaroo and surrounds into a thriving economic and employment hub continues.”

The Newcastle Herald broke the news of the proposal in July this year.

It punctuates an eventful period for the Cockle Creek precinct, with council staff also assessing a 330-lot subdivision nearby that is expected to bring about 2000 people into the area.
